If you’ve been scammed while using Cash App, there might be some good news for you! Cash App customers could claim up to $2,500 each as part of a $15 million class-action settlement, following data and security breaches involving the popular mobile payment service.

What’s This All About?
The settlement covers people whose accounts were accessed without their permission or who experienced fraudulent transactions. If you had a Cash App account anytime between August 23, 2018, and August 20, 2024, you may be eligible to file a claim.
The lawsuit stems from two security breaches, one involving a former employee who downloaded users’ data without authorization and another where unauthorized users accessed accounts via linked phone numbers. The lawsuit claimed that Cash App, along with its parent company Block, didn’t do enough to prevent these breaches or handle customer complaints properly.
While Cash App and Block deny any wrongdoing, they agreed to the $15 million settlement and to take steps toward improving data security.
How to File a Claim
You can file a claim easily by visiting the official CashApp settlement website. You’ll either need a notice ID and confirmation code (which may have been emailed or mailed to you), or you can file without those if you’re eligible.
Have More Than One Cash App Account?
If you have multiple accounts, you should only submit one claim. Just make sure to include the unique $Cashtag identifiers and all related information for each account.
Deadline to File
Don’t miss out! The deadline to file your claim is November 18.
How Much Could You Get?
The exact amount depends on how many people file claims, but affected customers may be able to claim up to $2,500 for losses like credit monitoring costs, fees related to closing and opening new bank accounts, and more. You can even claim up to three hours of lost time at a rate of $25 per hour! For transaction losses, be sure to include documentation, such as a police report.
What Happens if There’s Not Enough Money?
If there’s not enough money in the settlement to cover all the claims, the payout will be reduced and distributed proportionally.
Moved Recently?
If you move after filing your claim, you’ll need to notify the claims administrator with your new address. Here’s where to reach them:

Other Options
Not interested in the settlement? You can opt out by November 1 if you want to pursue your own lawsuit. You can also object to the settlement before November 1 if you feel it’s unfair. If you do nothing, you won’t receive any payment and may lose the chance to bring another related lawsuit in the future.
Is It Safe to Use Payment Apps?
Payment apps like Cash App, Venmo, and Zelle are convenient but can be targets for scammers. Be cautious, especially with unexpected requests for money. Always confirm who you’re sending money to, and avoid clicking suspicious links in emails, texts, or messages. If you are scammed it is important to file a report with your local law enforcment as well as reporting the scam website to us.
When Will the Court Approve the Cash App refund?
The court will hold a final approval hearing on December 16 to determine whether the settlement is fair and decide on attorney fees.
This could be a great opportunity to recover your losses—don’t miss the chance to file your claim!
