June 25, 2021 – Just got scammed by these guys. It’s a whole team! They’ve got a guy ( Richard, the seller) that sounds like he is middle aged(says he’s 55) with an African accent, a woman who also sounds middle aged but with an accent I can’t discern (but I’m thinking Middle Eastern), and a younger guy who has the same accent as the woman. They got me off of Craigslist (phone numbers 916-633-2385 and 720-583-3897 – they have two different posts!). The 720 never responded to my initial text, but that’s because the 916 guy was already dealing with me.
Sadly, they know what they’re doing. The post was based in Denver, but Richard said they went back to Sacramento, CA because his wife got sick. He asked all the right questions: are you a breeder? Do you have experience with pets? Do you have a big yard for them to play in? He also mentioned Millennium Transportation, who is incredibly reputable and specializes in pet delivery. Only $200 pet delivery fee. I was hooked! Sadly, he did not have a video calling app so we couldn’t FaceTime. Despite this, I gave him my address for delivery and put down a deposit. From then on, it was hell.
Sick, pregnant wife. Just dropped her off at the hospital in the morning but will drive to the delivery service to get them out within an hour. Oh no, Millennium is too busy and can’t do same-day service, so we are going to use United Express Delivery Service. He even provided their link to their website without me even asking. Website is nicely designed, works well, but does lead you in circles. I tried calling and googling their phone number, but of course nothing came up and the call never got picked up (424-245-5613). Couldn’t find a physical location for them in CA, but another delivery service named United Express Delivery Service did have an address and couple reviews located in Orland Park, IL. The delivery service even called me to confirm the time of delivery (626-6915022). This number brings up Home Birds 4u, so I was like tf. I tried to do my due diligence to have Richard go up to the cashier and get their phone number so I could google and call them myself. Gave me 661-228-5038. I called and the same young guy who called me to confirm delivery time answer. I asked for the address of the branch he was at, and first thing he responded was, “Why? You wanna come over”? in the most slimy, disgusting voice ever. all he could give me was the Oakland, CA 94607 that’s found on their website. I was going in circles with him because he was literally answering like a child (why? ohhhhhh, 9..4..6..0..7..). Then I asked to speak to someone else and he passed me to the middle-aged lady who could also only give me 94607 and then told me I could find the information on their website because they’re a private company. Yeah that didn’t make sense.
Anyways, fast-forward, to day of delivery. They called me from the 661 number and told me they were in my city, but were told by the seller not to deliver until full payment was made. I went off on Richard and he gave a sob story about how he was scammed by a lady before. Ironic much? We settled on half of what was due because I needed to see the puppies were real before giving anything else. The delivery people even started texting me too. Have I reached things with the seller? Why are you calling me a scam? Don’t start a fight you can’t finish? Yeah, they started threatening me already when I got mad and went off of them too. Richard even threatened to put me down. They were ready to deliver at any point – was just going to take 30-45 minutes to get to me once they got the all-clear. Mind you, this was said 3pm and lasted all the way pasted 8pm. A delivery service that has nothing else to do apparently. In an emotional state, I went and sent the remaining amount and we confirmed delivery time of 5pm-6pm tomorrow. At this point, I knew the puppies weren’t real but paid anyway so I could get them off my back and to stop screwing with me.
Day of delivery – I get a text from the delivery service people saying I had to pay $500 to the seller because the puppies were being held at my city’s police department because permits were needed. That was absolute bs and the final straw for me. I just ghosted them. Both seller and delivery service reached out multiple times. Delivery service even called me at 9pm to try and follow up. Mind you, they had been “in my city” for over 3 days with the puppies due to the back and forth with the seller and I. But, I didn’t hear any complaints or lodging fees. Red flag!
Next day, (today, June 25th!) I’m still ghosting them. At this point, the delivery service is the one getting aggressive. Richard was playing good cop, trying to ask what was wrong and only messaging me maybe twice the entire day. The delivery service on the other hand blew up my phone with text messages. Things escalated when a good friend started spamming them and posted their phone number on an online forum for them and other users to dox. At that point, they blew up my phone with death threats, saying they weren’t scared of the police, that I was letting these puppies die, and that the police won’t be any help when they finally arrive to my dead body. I just kept ignoring them and they did stop so far, but hopefully they have given up on me for good.
I finally called the police and filed a report, and as soon as I mentioned the delivery service, United Express Delivery Service, the officer told me they were a known scam. While they were a known scam to the police, it’s not known hear. I did not chance upon this blog in my initial research. It took a few days to find this, so I hope this gets around because it was an extremely stressful ordeal for me. While I’m assured it’s a known scam, my private information is out there. At one point, I succumbed to sending him money through Bitcoin, and he sent me the closest one to my place. It’s scary! I lost $1.5k in a transaction that was only supposed to be $1.1k. These guys got more than enough out of me and had the audacity to try and take $500 more.
