On 8/5/2021 I was in process of searching for a dog online. I was in contact with someone on craigslist. She was advertising that she needed her mini goldendoodle puppies rehomed, as her and her husband could no longer care for the dog. I sent a text message to her phone number that was attached to the advertisement. She asked for my email address to send me more details. We emailed back and forth with her over the course of 24 hours where we learned about each other. She told me all about the dog, and asked about my address, my profession, and my phone number. She asked if I could drive to Atlanta to pick up the puppy or she could arrange through a reliable pet transportation company to have the dog delivered to me. I agreed to receive the dog through the reliable transportation company.
She introduced me the pet convey company called “Diamond Pet Convey” located in Atlanta GA. After emailing the scam shipping company, I was told that the total amount for the dog’s transportation would be equal to $450 only payable by zelle. And that the dog would arrive to my address within 48 hours.
On 8/6/2021 I paid the fee via zelle, per their request, and got a confirmation email that I would receive a flight itinerary for the dog within the hour.
A half an hour later, I got an email labeled as “URGENT” that the crate they had the dog in had not been approved by the airport’s security regulations. And in order to stick to the delivery schedule, I would need to purchase or rent specific type of crate. The email stated that the crate fee was 100% refundable upon the delivery of the dog. I was skeptical, so I called and spoke with someone at the “Diamon Pet Convey” for clarification. And the so-called customer service representative person was a young male. Since the number was a Georgian area code and the website looked legitimate, I trusted them. I asked what would happen if I didn’t pay for the crate, where the dog would go now? He responded that the dog is on hold in the airport and is unattended. I didn’t want to leave the animal suffering in the airport, so I emailed so-called Jennifer and asked her to go and pick up the dog. She did not, and insisted that we share the crate fee between ourselves so, I pay only half price. Jennifer assured me that the transportation company is very reliable and that she used their services several times in the past.
On 8/7/2021, I sent the second payment equal to $1,260.00 to the same email address via zelle. I asked for an email confirmation that I would be refunded when my dog was delivered, which they happily sent.
Not long after, I received the third email that they need an extra $1,024.00 insurance fee. I immediately emailed so-called Jennifer where she assured me the company is 100% legitimate and she trusts them so well. At this point, I started research and looked up the transportation company’s name online and found multiple scam reports with the exact same fact patterns.
